With an impressive performance on their home courts, The Calverton School Varsity tennis team locked down their eighth straight league championship.
The Cougars, who went into the tournament as the #1 seed at every position, did not disappoint. At #1 singles, Brian Bowling won his first match 10-1 and then, though seemingly pushed on every point, dispatched Reed Joyner 10-3 in the championship match.
John Seymour took down the #2 singles champion with a convincing 10-3 semifinal win and a 10-3 win in the championship match against and an opponent who had beaten him earlier in the year.
At #3 singles, Ian Weiner won his semifinal match 10-3 and had to fight through a tough match with Justin Druman of Riverdale, eventually taking the championship with a 10-5 win.
Mike Hicks and Ty Jensen won the #1 doubles championship with a 10-6 win in the semifinal and a 10-4 win in the championship.
The most hotly contested match of the day came in the #2 doubles championship. After breezing through a 10-1 semifinal win, Scott Lee and Kyle DePaolo found themselves behind early, but were able to find the magic and come from behind to win 10-8.
Congratulations to the Cougars on keeping their championship streak alive!
