Golf Classic -- June 2010

The Golf Classic raised over $20,000 for our Shaw Scholarship Fund.  The Shaw Scholarship is a fund that helps students who have lost a parent continue their education at The Calverton School.

A special thank you goes out to Beth & Randy Herriott and their family for coordinating the Golf Classic.  They put in countless hours to make sure the "Classic" was a success!

The Calverton School's Annual Giving Campaign is the single most important fundraising activity conducted each year.
It is the only fundraising activity that benefits every student, every day.

Annual Giving at Calverton

As an independent nonsectarian school, Calverton does not receive operating funds from the state, the county, or any religious organization.

Independent schools depend on funds raised through voluntary financial support from their alumni, current and past families, and friends. Tuition income alone does not cover a Calverton education. There is a "gap" of about $2500 per student between what tuition covers and the actual cost of attending The Calverton School.

If you are a Federal Employee, you can give to Calverton through the Combined Federal Campaign- CFC.

Calverton's designation is 20718.

New This Year!!  ACE!

Your Contribution Can Help Support Calverton's ACE Program

This year, all gifts over and above an individual's gift commitment last year will be designated to support the ACE program (unless otherwise requested by the donor).

What is the ACE Program?

  • It provides Academic support and enrichment for students

The ACE program helps students gain a jump-start on the school year by meeting dureing hte month of August.  August classes provide opportunities for review of previously taught material so that students can focus on all new material once school begins.  These sessions also afford teachers time to work more intensely with students to prepare them more fully for AP-level courses or general coursework in subjects such as writing and math.

  • It provides Professional Development for Teachers

The ACE program also provides professional development opportunities for teachers to engage in extended planning and curricular work in thesummer, attend professional workshops or training, and engage in coursework.  Great schools like Calverton recognize the need to balance deliberate planning and reflection with the daily work of the school.

Help 'ZAP THE GAP!' Calverton Needs Your Support!

  • Tuition covers just 80-85% of the operating budget of Calverton
  • This translates to just over $1 million that the school must find from other sources (includes annual giving, auction, summer camp revenue, investment income, etc.)
  • Faculty salaries and benefits = 76% of Calverton's budget

Why Give? ... Five excellent reasons to support Annual Giving.

1. Your support helps attract and retain highly competent and passionate faculty by offering competitive salaries.
2. Calverton must not increase tuition to the point that it will price itself above what most families can afford.
3. Annual Giving helps reduce the pressure to increase tuition.
4. Foundations and corporations look at participation rates from parents, alumni, and others close to the school to determine whether they will join in supporting Calverton.
5. Your gift is TAX DEDUCTIBLE, tuition is NOT!

OKAY, one more ... #6 (for our ALUMNI). It is a wonderful way to give back to those who gave to support the school when you were a student and to keep your alma mater strong!!!

Our Ambassador Program

Calverton's Annual Giving Ambassadors help the school reach out to our community of supporters to spread the word about the important role that philanthropic support plays at Calverton. Ambassadors communicate this need to the rest of the school community and encourage contributions.

Please welcome the calls from your Annual Giving Ambassadors as they volunteer for this most important activity that provides critical support for the educational programs of our students as well as support to attract and retain the very best faculty.
