Making a planned gift to The Calverton School
The Calverton School is the object of affection for hundreds of alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends. Many people are under the misconception that making a "major gift" to the school is impossible when thinking of their financial security and that of their heirs. What you may discover with a planned gift is that:
- Your giving capacity expands enormously;
- You receive an immediate tax deduction while avoiding capital gains; and
- The gift provides you with a sense of philanthropic accomplishment.
Very importantly, these gift options provide for family and other beneficiaries, offer tax benefits to the donor, and allow the donor to make a substantial gift to Calverton.
If your planned gift is made with appreciated real estate or securities, not only are you entitled to an immediate tax deduction, but you also reduce or eliminate capital gains tax. In most cases, you remove the amount of the gift from your taxable estate.
Leave a lasting legacy for the future of Calverton by joining the Forever Calverton Society and naming The Calverton School in your will, trust, or insurance policy.
There are many ways to make a planned gift; each provides various benefits to the donor, but the easiest way to do so is through a bequest. When you write or review your will, please consider leaving a charitable bequest. Ask your attorney to include such words as these:
"I give, devise, or bequeath to The Calverton School, for its general purposes all (or state fraction) of the rest, residue, or remainder of my estate, whether real or personal."
"I give to The Calverton School the sum of ____ dollars to be used for the general purposes of the School."
