Clubs & Activities

Lower School Clubs

Lower School Clubs meet every Friday.  The clubs begin in First Grade.  The students have the choice to pick which club they would like to belong too.  Listed below are the clubs and their descriptions.

Phonics

Have fun reviewing letter sounds with stories about Letter Man in Alphabet-land and games like Silly sounds Playground! Come join the fun as we become better readers and spellers by playing games and listening to stories. Open to grades 1 and 2.

Fitness

If you would like to improve your fitness level, this is the club for you! We will be walking courses and trails on the main campus and on the 100 acres and also be playing a variety of exciting organized games. We will be tracking our steps on pedometers to see just how far we can go, while improving our individual fitness levels. Open to grades 1-5.

Yoga

The yoga club practices different styles of yoga, with specific focus on breathing and relaxation techniques, strength, balance and flexibility development. The class is presented with a non-competitive tone for communal development. Children will learn through imaginative play, poses, and exploration and extension through various art medias. Open to grades 1-5.

Knitting

Come one, come all! Learn to knit and serve the larger community in a single stitch! We will learn the basic stitches and knit squares for the WarmUp America Foundation. WarmUp America collects knit squares and helps to distribute blankets and other knit goods to families in need. Anyone can learn to knit and everyone, boys and girls alike, can enjoy knitting. Open to grades 1-5.

Technology

Are you interested in computers? Come explore some exciting software and creative uses of technology. Open to grades 1-5.

Chess Club

Experienced and beginners alike are welcome to enjoy competition in the chess club. We will provide basic instruction for beginning players and strategy tips for the experienced players. Students will play against others close to their ability level. They will learn while playing, competing and having fun. There will be opportunities later in the year for those who are interested in playing in matches against other schools and in tournaments. Open to grades 2-5.

Roots & Shoots

The power of youth is global. Roots & Shoots is about making positive changes for our community, animals and the environment. With tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots network branches out across the globe connecting youth of all ages who share a common desire to help make our world a better place. This powerful, youth-driven network fosters a fun, flexible and supportive environment where young people and adults come together to share ideas and inspiration, implement successful community service projects and participate in special events and global campaigns. Open to grades 3-5.

Chorus

In this exciting club, students will sing together in unison with two and three parts as they prepare for our annual Winter Concert. This year, the chorus performed at Asbury/Solomons Retirement Center and Hermitage Retirement Center. Open to grades 3-5.

Nurses

The future Nurses of America Club will provide students with an opportunity to learn the history of Nursing and practice basic nursing skills such as wrapping pretend injuries and the proper care for burns. They will participate in club project designed to help promote good health practices at school and at home. They will visit a local nursing home to interact with the residents, and upon "graduation," will participate in a Pinning Ceremony to celebrate their new skills and accomplishments.
