The Summer Adventures Staff
A leadership team of educational professionals facilitates Calverton
Summer Adventures. Energetic and experienced instructors, who are
assisted
by young adult counselors, teach the camp programs. The camp program
is regulated and certified by the state of Maryland's Department
of Mental Health and Human Hygiene.
Leadership Team
Director: Susan Cox has been a teacher and Lower
School Head at The Calverton School and now directs the Summer
Program.
Sports Camp Coordinator: Greg Zecca, Calverton's
Athletic Director, brings his experience and expertise in planning
sports camp programming for Summer Adventures. Mr.
Zecca oversees the sports camp programs and lends
his expertise to the instructional sessions.
Program Coordinator: Marianne
Lounsberry is a Middle School mathematics teacher at Calverton.
As program coordinator,
Mrs. Lounsberry coordinates the youth camps, manages
Kids Club in the afternoons, and oversees the Afternoon Extended
Care
Program.
Administrative Coordinator: Elizabeth
Manning teaches Latin in Calverton's Middle and Upper Schools.
She has been involved with the camp program since 2002, and she
handles registration, billing, and medical forms for the camp program.
She
also handles the Morning Extended Care Program.
Instructors
Youth Camp: Instructors for the youth camp are
individuals who have considerable experience working with younger
children. Most have college degrees or are near completion of their
degrees. Many instructors are Calverton teachers or return instructors
for Summer Adventures. They are assisted by the counselor team.
Junior Camp: Instructors are experts in their
fields. Most have college degrees or are near completion of a degree
in a field directly related to the camp being taught. Many instructors
are Calverton teachers or return instructors for Summer Adventures.
Sports Camp: Instructors are coaches or athletic
directors. They are assisted by college players and young adult
athletes with considerable experience in the sport.
Counselor Team
The counselor team assists with the youth camps and Extended Care
Program. All counselors are at least eighteen years of age, and
the majority are college students. The counselors assist instructors
during activity time and assist Mrs. Lounsberry during recreation
and
Kids Club.
