What we learn with pleasure we do not forget.
Therefore, in our first grade, one of our primary goals is
to have learning be an adventure, thus capitalizing on the
natural enthusiasm and excitement children innately carry
with them from the first day of school. Recognizing that
children learn in a variety of ways, our first grade curriculum
offers students a wealth of learning experiences. Subject
areas are integrated as often as possible, giving a better
sense of the connections between topics. Both large and small
group instruction provide children with plenty of opportunities
to broaden their perspective intellectually and socially.

Although children are affected greatly by their teachers, parents
are their first and most influential teachers. Therefore, we look
forward to working closely with parents so that their children
may enjoy a successful and rewarding year in first grade.
Our primary goals for the first grade year:
Focus
on the whole child - not just academic growth, but emotional and
social progress as well.
Create
a positive, supportive, and non-threatening environment in which
a child can explore, discover, and build a healthy emotional and
scholastic self-image.
Develop
the self-confidence needed to try different experiences, take risks,
and meet new challenges.
Encourage
an enthusiasm for learning, an eagerness to do well, and a positive
spirit while involving the child as an active participant in the
learning process, particularly by having him/her ask sound questions
and solve problems using varied strategies.
