Welcome from the Head of School

Our Mission -

Fostering a culture of respect, high expectations, and shared experiences, The Calverton School instills in students intellectual curiosity, personal responsibility, and a strong work ethic to prepare them for higher education and responsible citizenship in a democratic and global community.

Christopher Hayes
Head of School

Welcome to Calverton, where our students work hard, play fair, and have fun.

A student's effort excels when work is interesting and meaningful. In small classes, Calverton's veteran teachers invite students to participate and actively connect learning to their own lives. At Calverton, standardized testing is only one narrow measure of learning. For our students to become resilient adults, they need to first learn determination and grit. Therefore, we forge a tight connection between home and school in support of each child. Our academic curriculum culminates with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme not only because it is rigorous and globally recognized, but because it encourages sustained effort.

Playing fair is fundamental to producing great citizens and neighbors. Calverton's Philosophy of Honor, signed by each student, sets the daily tone for how we treat each other. Fair play is evident too in athletics and the arts. Students are encouraged to participate so they learn the value of teamwork, how to win graciously, and how to rebound from defeat. Calverton's Residential Global Village enriches us by including student perspectives from other regions of the United States and around the world.

I hope that this sounds like the right partnership for you. Please visit campus, tour our classrooms, cheer for our Cougars at a game or performance, and experience firsthand the contagious love of learning is the key to success. If students enjoy their school experience and the people who surround them, they will thrive and persevere. Each Calverton student is here because a family member made a deliberate choice to explore an alternative. Just as Calverton parents value education and expect excellence, Calverton teachers love teaching and encouraging student growth.
