Welcome from the Interim Head of School

Each morning, students are greeted with a firm handshake and a warm welcome, from our youngest Cougars to our almost-graduating seniors. Students walk through our doors ready to take risks in the classroom, chat with teachers about their latest learning and activities, and find their friends with whom they’ve created lifelong bonds.

Tucked between the Chesapeake Bay and the Patuxent River, Calverton’s expansive campus welcomes a diverse student body from five surrounding counties throughout Southern Maryland. In pre-kindergarten, students balance skill and play-based learning while an Upper School International Baccalaureate curriculum offers students opportunities to deepen their expression, collaboration, and critical thinking abilities.

Our dedicated teachers come to Calverton, and stay at Calverton, because of the meaningful relationships they have with each student. Calverton teachers find joy watching students grow into leaders, as they stretch beyond their comfort zones, whether in the classroom, in the theater or art rooms, or on the sports fields. Each learner is valued in our small classes where teachers create challenging educational experiences, meeting each student where they are academically.

The student-written Philosophy of Honor is part of students’ daily lives as they pursue intellectual curiosity, demonstrate personal responsibility, and learn from their mistakes. We are a community of integrity, honor, and tolerance, where we don’t have locks on lockers and each student has a deep sense of belonging. It is no surprise that our students become people of character and admirable global citizens.

There is so much that The Calverton School can offer you and your family. We cannot wait to see your child grow and excel in an extraordinary community that many people call home.

Sincerely,

Dr. Allison Trentman
