Residential Admissions

Located on Maryland’s Calvert Peninsula, The Calverton School is an independent leader among college-preparatory schools; committed to maximizing student potential and preparing students to become global citizens. Our residential program is designed to be small to allow individualized attention to each student's academic and personal growth—only 25% of our Upper School students board.

Founded in 1967, The Calverton School is located just south of Washington, DC, centrally located on the "East Coast" of the United States in a country setting ideal for student safety and cultural development. Our 150+ acre campus, along with the water access provided by our River Campus, is key to outdoor classroom and field studies. Calverton is also home to a large sports complex including a synthetic turf field, Bermuda turf fields, tennis courts, a softball field, and trails. In the fall of 2014, Calverton opened its One World Residential Village, a cluster of "homes" on campus, designed to provide a nurturing atmosphere to support student success.

Calverton's dedicated educators provide a rigorous academic experience with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. While our students are challenged to master the content in the core academic disciplines, Calverton also aims to help students develop vital 21st-century skills: teamwork and collaboration, creativity, technology, research and inquiry, communication, problem-solving, and leadership.

Calverton is proud to have served as home to students from the United States (Pennsylvania, Utah, Maryland, Virginia, Maine, and New York), Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Germany, Bangladesh, Russia, Canada, Iceland, Thailand, Turkey, Malaysia, and Brazil.

Students who board are more likely to:

  • Devote more time to homework and extracurricular activities
  • Spend more time with teachers outside the classroom
  • Learn how to set goals and budget time
  • Practice self-discipline and responsibility
  • Learn to act and think independently
  • Develop leadership skills

In addition to garnering acceptances to some of the most exclusive and prestigious universities in the nation, 78% of boarding school graduates say they were very well prepared for the non-academic aspects of college life, such as independence, social life, and time management as opposed to 35% of private day school students.

Students interested in pursuing residential admission, domestic or international, should contact Beth Lennon, Associate Director of Admissions at blennon@calvertonschool.org.

The Calverton School is registered with SEVIS, the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, and is authorized to issue I-20's to international students so they may acquire an F-1 Visa. In addition to the regular application for admission, international students must conduct a Skype interview with our International Student Recruitment Coordinator and submit a bank-verified financial statement as per the procedure below. If you are working with an agency, please contact your agency for their application or special directions.

If you are already in the United States with a green card, or not planning on utilizing an agency, please contact Beth Lennon, Associate Director of Admissions directly at blennon@calvertonschool.org.
