Tennis

Hosted on Calverton’s own six-court tennis complex, this camp will be a wonderful experience for the beginner, as well as the experienced tennis player. Campers will work through all aspects of the game and will learn or improve in the following areas: serves, volleys, backhand management, and game strategy. Come join us and develop your skills as a tennis player!

Introduction to Violin

This camp is for students who are beginners to violin and want to explore learning how to play the violin. Essential elements include how to read music, how to properly hold the violin, and gain a basic understanding of playing simple pieces that they can continue to explore as they start the new school year. The instructor will plan for a local music store to come one day to show students the violin and to explain the rental process.  Our daily schedule will teach fundamentals of music (learning to read music); exploring the violin; making music on the violin to include scales and simple pieces. Ending the week with a very short concert and a question-and-answer session for parents who are interested in continuing the process of learning the violin.

Soccer

This camp focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control through fun soccer skills curriculum focusing on individual fundamental skills (dribbling in 1v1s, passing, receiving, & shooting) and game play.  By the end of the camp, your child will have learned new life skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship, made new friends, and improved their soccer skills.

Beginner Violin Camp

This camp is for students who have played violin for at least one school year, those who have played at the Suzuki book 1 level. Campers will build on what they already know, focusing on strengthening their technical foundation (posture, bow hold), building new musical skills (different bowing techniques, different musical styles) and developing practice strategies to find new levels of facility in playing the violin, ease, and music reading fluency in their playing.
 
During the week, campers will learn a piece that they will play by themselves in a recital type setting at the end of the week.  Our daily schedule will include music theory and music reading, playing pieces and scales as a group, one-on-one time to work on solo piece, incorporate professional violinist from the area to come and play for students. Ending the week with a very short concert featuring each student playing a solo, accompanied on the piano.

Horseback Riding Camp

Travel with our camp counselor to and from Canaan Farms where you will have a professional horseback riding lesson, learn about horse grooming and care, and observe onsite demonstrations from a competitive rider.  Lead instructor is available to speak with camp families about camper's riding history and experiences to tailor individual lessons.  Instructors have thorough and safe plans in place for all levels of experience.

Sports Mania

Join the excitement as campers have the opportunity to play sports in our air-conditioned gymnasium or on our sports fields.  Your camper will learn the basics of several sports while making friends and playing hard.  You won't want to miss this exciting and energetic camp.

Basketball

This camp is designed to teach new players the fundamentals of the game while strengthening the skills of the more advanced player.  Your child will: learn to play basketball the right way; have fun while playing with friends; focus on areas you want to improve; and compete in a safe and healthy way!

Boys Lacrosse

Come join Coach Peter Kerwin for a memorable week of lacrosse!  Coach Kerwin won The Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2015, and has been coaching Boys Varsity Lacrosse at Huntingtown High School since 2011.  Do not miss this opportunity to learn from the best!
 
Campers will be playing field lacrosse on our synthetic turf as well as indoor lacrosse in our air conditioned gym.  Campers will be doing everything from basic fundamentals to game strategy and X's and O's.  Players will need to bring their own helmet, gloves, arm pads, mouth guard, cleats, and shoes (for indoor). In addition, each camper should bring his own water each day.
